The program

Overview

Marshall's program was shaped by tragedy when a 1970 plane crash killed 75 people, including most of the team and coaching staff, a story told in the film 'We Are Marshall.' The Thundering Herd rebuilt into a Division I-AA champion in 1992 and 1996 and, with Chad Pennington at quarterback, went 13-0 in 1999. Marshall joined the Sun Belt in 2022.
