Overview
North Carolina's early star was Charlie 'Choo Choo' Justice in the late 1940s, and Lawrence Taylor anchored its defense around 1980. Mack Brown built the Tar Heels into a top-10 team in the late 1990s and returned for a second stint from 2019 to 2024. In December 2024, UNC hired six-time Super Bowl champion head coach Bill Belichick.
