The program
Overview
South Carolina joined the SEC in 1992 after stints as an ACC member and an independent. George Rogers won the 1980 Heisman Trophy, Lou Holtz revived the program around 2000, and Steve Spurrier led the Gamecocks to three straight 11-win seasons from 2011 to 2013. The Palmetto Bowl against Clemson is the state's defining rivalry.
