The program
Overview
Florida rose to national prominence after Steve Spurrier, its 1966 Heisman winner, returned as head coach in 1990 and led his 'Fun 'n' Gun' teams to the 1996 national title. Urban Meyer added championships in 2006 and 2008, the latter behind 2007 Heisman winner Tim Tebow. Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, known as 'The Swamp,' is among the SEC's most intimidating venues.
